Al Green – Justin Timberlake
Al Green has helped overpopulate the world. It has a child to do serious music. But what makes this inspiration is the first passion, honesty and the joy it brings to his music. People are born to do certain things, and Al was born to make us smile. You can hear his voice and shines on everything. Every time one of his songs began to play – whether it is “Thou shalt be with me”, “I’m still in Love With You”, “Love and Happiness” and, of course, “Let ‘s Stay Together” – begins when Stomp on it and the guitar, you know you are in for a bit ‘sweet love. His songs were not as political as Marvin Gaye and Donny Hathaway. But when the boys were talking to you, Al Green came to speak with you.
Al Green’s voice, always remember to drive down the side streets of Memphis with my parents, listening to cassettes. Hearing Al as a kid made me want to become a singer and showed me that I was OK there, a sweet, falsetto voice. I connected with, because I never had a big, loud voice American Idol showstopping. Al, was a pop star. The way you would squeeze a note can not be trained and can not be imitated.
Behind him there was this incredible band. Funky on songs like “Tired Of Being Alone”, the horns, elegant and sober, but I’m completely. I’ve always loved the way in which the errors were in the shop of his albums, the way the band is almost synchronous at the beginning of “love and happiness.” Even its casinos are beautiful.
Finally, I discovered that this man I lived five minutes from me in my hometown idolized. Then, years later, I went to the White House (back when Clinton was in office), and Al was carried out there. He sang Sam Cooke “A Change Is Gonna Come”, and the audience wept. After releasing my first solo album, I did a TV special in Memphis, and I called him and asked him if he honors us with his presence. We sang “Let ‘s Stay Together” on stage, and was a milestone in my short career insignificant. I learned something amazing: everything must always be on the show. But Al Green is the show, and if you look at him run, you see something honest and passionate and surprising.
